Getting Started

 

The DeKalb County Central USD app is available for iOS and Android devices (phones & tablets).  Windows phone users can visit the web address listed below from their Windows phone to access the app information. https://dekalbcentral.parentlink.net/m/

 

To download the free DeKalb County Central USD app:  (Click here to view video tutorial.)

  • Visit the App Store or Google Play, or scan the QR code, or click here to download the iOS version.  To download the Android version of the app, please click here.  

  • Search for DeKalb County Central USD School District

  • Select "Get" then "Install"

  • You will need to know/enter your Apple or Google account password

  • After it has installed select "Open"

 

Once the app has loaded on your device, open it and swipe it to the left (if necessary) to see all the various information modules.  Next, complete the following configurations:

  • App Setup - (Click here to view video tutorial.) When you open the app for the first time, a screen will ask if you want to receive push notifications.  These are similar to the alert calls you currently receive through phone, text, and emails.

    • After you have clicked "Allow" or "Don't Allow" you will be greeted with a Welcome screen.  This is where we suggest you click on "Choose from a List"

    • By default, the District notifications is already selected.  You can then choose individual school(s) to follow as well

    • Then, click "Next"

    • Finally, click "Finish"

 

  •             My Feed - (Click here to view video tutorial.) This section shows news, calendars, social media, school status, and alerts.  By default you are receiving the District.  You can select individual schools by clicking the "gear" icon in the top right-hand corner.  Then, customize the feeds you receive by selecting the areas of interest.

 

  •             Notifications - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  Click into this area to set up your notifications.  By default, everyone who downloads the app will receive District notifications and will get a “push” alert when there is a new message.  You can choose to receive notifications from individual schools as well, and can elect to turn alerts off, meaning you will only see notifications if you click into that module. 

    • To delete notifications click on the "notifications" icon.  Then, click on "Edit" in the top right-hand corner.  Next, select individual notifications you want to be deleted or select, "Delete All".

 

  •             Calendar - (Click here to view video tutorial.) By default you are receiving information from the District event calendar.  You can customize the feeds you receive by clicking the “gear” icon in the calendar module. 

    • After selecting calendars click "Colors" in the top-right and corner and select desired color

    • Next, click "Done"

    • You will then see events listed below the calendar

    • Select event and add to device calendar or add notes if desired

 

  •              Directory - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  Here, you will find address, map, website, phone, and e-mail information for each school/teacher and for the District Office.  

    • First, select a school or the district

    • Then, select the school or district phone number  

    • Next, select the school or district address and click the icon in the top right-hand corner to view location in Maps Application or Google Maps

    • Then, select the website

    • Next, select Staff or Teachers.  Then, select a person or search for a person in the search bar at the top. Press the given email to send an email directly from the app or touch the phone number to dial imediately.  Finally, press the extension in the bottom left-hand corner to dial directly to the given person.  

 

  •              Sports - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  When you click the sports module, you will be able to see DeKalb Central's live sports feed.

    • News - Click the news module at the bottom to see the scores, news, and updates of your favorite DeKalb Central sports team, band, or choir, click “change” in the top right-hand corner.  From there, select the school and the activity you want to view.  Once your selections are made, you will view live Twitter feeds.

    • Sites -  Click the sites module and click “change” in the top right-hand corner.  From there, select the school and activity to view.

 

  •              Student Info - This section will be available in fall 2015!  It will be where parents can access student grades, lunch balances, attendance information, and checked-out library books.

 

  •               Feedback - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  One of the more important functions of our app is its ability to provide a place to submit feedback.  The feedback tool is a way for students, staff, parents and community patrons to let us know about things going on in and around our schools—both positive and negative.  A separate Feedback Usage Guide page has been created for the Feedback Tool.  Please refer to that if you have questions about how feedback will be handled by our schools.

 

  •              Lunch Menu - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  See what’s on the menu at our schools!

    • Click the "gear" icon in the top right-hand corner and select a school

    • Click "Colors" in the top right-hand corner

    • Click school and select a color

    • Next, press "Done"

    • Select Breakfast or Lunch at the bottom to view menu

    • Finally, add to device calendar or add notes if desired 

 

  •              Send Money to School - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  Connect to the Send Money to School website to add money to your child’s meal account.

 

  •              Follett Destiny - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  Connect to your school's media center website to view books in the library.

 

  •              Facebook and Twitter            - (Click here to view video the Facebook tutorial, and click here for to view the Twitter video tutorial.)  Go directly to the District and Schools' social media sites

    • Click on the "Change" in the top right-hand corner to go between school pages  

    • Be sure to Log In to Comment, Like, Retweet, and Favorite posts

 

  •             Photos - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  View your school's photos!  

    • Select the "Gear" icon in the top right-hand corner to select schools

    • Click the Grid at the top, next to the "Gear" icon to change view

    • Scroll through pictures

 

  •             YouTube - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  This where you can view DeKalb High School's Btv, DeKalb Middle School's Baron News, Country Meadow's Hawk News, and more District- and school-created videos.

    • Click the "Change" in the top right-hand corner and select the channel you want to view

    • Scroll through videos

    • Click the video you wish to watch and enjoy

 

  •            Digital Backpack - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  In this section, you can view activities and camps offered in the community.

    • Click the Digital Backpack icon

    • Select Elementary, Secondary, or Community Backpack

    • Select school

    • Click view or download given flyers

 

  •            Resources - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  Find links to important reference information, like this Help Guide , the Feedback Usage Guidelines document, student registration and online kindergarten enrollment information, volunteer forms, and much more!

 

  •             Transportation - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  View school bus guidelines and procedures, activity bus routes, bus lineups, transportation request forms, and more!

 

  •              School Finder - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  Looking for an elementary, middle, or high school close to you?  

    • First, select the school finder icon

    • Then, type in an address

    • View map or click "List" in the top right-hand corner

    • Select school to view school phone number, address, and website

    • Click the icon in the top right-hand corner to "View in Maps Application" or "View in Google Maps" 

 

  •              echo - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  This is the sign in page for grades 7-8 Fusion students and 9-12 New Tech students to view assignments and information.   

 

  •              Settings - (Click here to view video tutorial.)  This is where you can edit your schools you follow, configure alerts, select language preference, rate this app, share this app, and reset app defaults.
